The Future of GThing - Important Information

Greetings all,

As some of you are probably aware, I have not been able to devote the time that is needed to keep GThing and game-thing.com up to date. I have been continuing support for those that purchase GThing.

GThing and game-thing.com have not moved forward for some time and to get things going again I am going to open up this topic for discussion.

Currently GThing is a purchase-only product with an accompaning free product, junction. The both upload games to LG mobiles (some moto mobiles too) and GThing can do quite a bit more.

These two products are developed in C++ using Visual Studio. The both use libgthing wich is an open source library for LG mobiles developed by myself.

Keeping GThing up-to-date requires an enormous ammount of effort and skill in being able to determine how a mobile phone communicates and implement code to achieve this from phone logs alone.

I have considerd offering GThing and its products up as open source, however knowing the skill and time required to maintain GThing, I doubt there would be enough effort from the public to keep GThing up to date.

So currently I have two proposals.

1.
GThing is no longer distributed from game-thing.com. Instead, GThing is rebranded for any website willing to distribute GThing. To distribute GThing a yearly fee would need to be paid and any customisation work would be charged at an hourly rate. Each website could choose the price they wish to offer GThing at, even for free if they like.

This would require quite a few websites to opt into the program before it became a reasonable option. Something in the order of 10-20

2.
GThing is developed to support phones as requested. For a phone to be supported, funds equal to the price of the phone and two days labour must be accumulated from the public. Once support is reached, those that donated get a copy, others need to wait for 2 months and then the price for GThing for their mobile would be set at two times the average donation.

Either of these options are difficult to get working but could possibly be better than whats going on at the moment.

So for the time being things will continue as normal. I am looking for input on these ideas or alternatives. If you are a developer that would like to get your hands on the GThing source or a website owner that would want your own branded GThing then do speak up.

as always, good luck with that.

I had considerd opening up the source but I would need some substantial interest from people who are qualified to continue with GThing. The steps required to support a new mobile are not trivial and opening up the source does not ensure that any new mobile could be supported.

If I can hear from developers that would be willing to chip in then I may come round to the idea.

Hi ryan this is my idea:
-release last version of gthing 1.7.5 (maybe compatible with new 2 or 3 devices) as a FREEWARE
-trasfer game-thing.com in a new free host,so you will pay nomore (look this post: OGMdevelopment - Forum - Visualizza un messaggio singolo - Spazio web gratis )
-release program source code

what do you think? is it a good idea? programmers maybe will continue your great work...i suppose it's the best way to termite your program support

[Sorry 4 my Eng] Si capisce qualcosA???
