The Parker Brothers, now Hasbro, Monopoly license has been hugely successful for over 70 years. The mobile version of Monopoly developed by iFone was a fairly strict adherence to the original rules, and a great overall implementation retaining the feel of the board game. Monopoly Tycoon is a variation on the theme with completely different game play. Monopoly Tycoon was originally developed for PC but has new been brought to your mobile by the fine folks at (M)Forma. Now Hands-On-Mobile.

The goal in Monopoly Tycoon is to outdo you computer opponents by either earning more money, accumulating more wealth, or selling more products. To achieve these goals you start with a random property on the traditional Monopoly game board. On this property you have a block of units and three empty lots. Each turn you may build in one empty lot on one property you own. You can choose to build business from newspaper stands, cinemas, grocery stores, to department stores and car dealerships.

To build a business you must select how many stories the building will have (Two, Four or Six), what type of business it will be (Bar, Restaurant, Newsstand, Grocery Store, Cinema, Department store, or Car Dealer), and the quality of the building. The cost of the building is determined by its number of floors and its quality. Low quality buildings are $500 per floor while high quality buildings cost $2000 per floor. The business you choose to build will determine how much income you will generate.

To choose the ideal business for your property you can view the popularity information which lists which businesses are in demand and wether the demand is increasing or declining. The information is different for each property so a Newsstand may perform well on one property while a Cinema may perform better on another. The popularity of a business is not constant so you will find that as time goes on, your once prosperous Newsstand will be running at a loss. Business can be easily changed, for a cost.

Each turn, an unowned property on the board goes up for auction. All player are allowed to be and the highest bid gains ownership. Just as in the original monopoly, properties belong to a set and if you own all the properties in a set you obtain a monopoly allowing you to convert the apartment buildings on those properties to hotels. The railroads and utilities are also available as properties and bring income based upon the number of each type you own.

Winning a game involves completing the goal set for the game at the start. The goal can be to reach a sales quantity, to accumulate net worth after a certain number of days, or to accumulate money after a certain number of days. You can also lose a game if you stay in debt for a period of five consecutive days. Computer players can also lose by debt so careful play can force computer players into situations where losing is inevitable.

Discussion:
Se Review for Monopoly Tychoon here:
http://game-thing.com/game-review-Mo...20Tycoon-1.htm
When I played this game for review I found that most often the tactic that always worked was to be very aggressive after the first or second auction.

At the first auction, the computer players would bid much higher than they should and end up paying top dollar for land that would be vacant for a while. If on turn two you have two bits of land you will only have two buildings total giving you four vacant lots. Paying top dollar for vacant lots is not a good option.

After the first auction or possibly second depending on how the computer players bid, you then need to buy every single property that can be built on. If its a train station or such, leave it for the computer players, otherwise buy Buy BUY!

You may go into debt and may need to skip a turn or so buying new properties but if you keep the computer players out of the market for long enough, they simply can't win. You also seem to easily make back your purchase price with good business selection.

When building businesses, I most often opt for two story buildings and always buy the same quality as the land but on the lower side if there is no direct conversion. I never build car sale yards and try to avoid restaurants. Newsstands are king so buy them if they are popular.

With these simple rules, I rarely find the computer players any trouble.

Anyone else found good tactics or small exploits to help you win?

Ryan.
