Welcome to our first newsletter

game-thing.com has been around for a while now and some of you would have noticed that I promised I would do a newsletter at some stage. Since subscriptions are now over 2,000, I feel that my time would not be wasted since there would actually be some people reading it.

So what benefit will you have reading this newsletter? There will always be at least one competition with each newsletter with real prizes and there will always be something for free for your mobile. Other than the free stuff and competitions, there will be insightful and interesting things you can do with your mobile and general interest stories for mobile phone users.

This newsletter will be run monthly to begin with and may be varied depending on how often people would like to receive competitions, free games, and news.

Thank you for being a member of game-thing.com and, as always, good luck with that!

microSD Card Competition

Have you seen the directWebInstall directory yet? I think its a wonderful service that could use a few more games and applications to download.

Our competition this month is to add as many new games and applications to the directory as you can. The person who has added the most will win a 512MB microSD card. There are also prizes given at random to anybody who participates. More details...

Pokele - Free Game

Haven't played Pokele yet? This simple fun game uses only one button on your mobile. Each time you press the button the two pokele will move in the direction they are facing. Your objective is to get both pokele home without them getting into trouble by falling down a shaft.

Pokele is a nokia game but will work with nokia emulation. There is even a Windows, Linux, and MacOS version available so you can continue the fun on your desktop! A unique game that is both simple to play and fun.

iPhone - Fab or Flop?

Apple have finally put the speculation to rest, they are releasing a mobile phone, and it will be called iPhone. If you look at the technical details of the iPhone, there are standard features and a few stand out advances such as a multi-touch screen, but nothing that is ground breaking. The same could be said about the iPod when it was released. MP3 players existed for many years before the iPod but it was apple that made the MP3 player, or actually just the iPod, a must-have device. Motorola have experimented with supporting iTunes on their mobiles and found that it hasn't brought them the success they had hoped. So will the iPhone be the next iPod, that's the question everybody is asking.

Join our poll and post your opinion. When the iPhone has been round for a while, the actual answer will be known and an update will be posted so you can see what people thought of the iPhone before they got a chance to use it and before it was available for sale. My money is on...

GPS on LG Mobiles

There is some evidence to suggest that LG mobiles may support GPS in the future and there may even be partial support on your LG mobile.

For some time now, LG mobile phones seem to have been released with either incomplete or broken GPS support. Even more interesting is that accessing the GPS unit appears possible from java but not yet useful.

Final Words

Creating a newsletter is something new to me but hopefully you found something interesting in this issue. If you have any comments regarding the content of the newsletter feel free to contact me either on the forums or via email. I would particularly welcome comments about the length and about which parts you would like to see in the next newsletter.
